LISTINGS

 

Listings are the individual pages about places that you find listed here in the Community area. We invite you to submit new listings and reviews of any places of interest to travelers that you have visited (or work at) and so have first-hand experience. To do so, you must be a member of this free community. So join up if you haven't done so already.

 

FIND WHAT IS AROUND YOU (PROXIMITY)

 

Locally: A great way to find out what is around you at the moment (at home or when traveling) is to click on the "Explore World Cities (Maps)" menu option which will geolocate you on a map. Then click on the location name. That will display all kinds of nearby places such as restaurants, hotels, airports, and so much more.

 

Worldwide: You can also use that same mapping tool to select from cities and countries worldwide. Another way to find a specific listing is to use the round Search icon (magnifying glass image) at the top of your screen. Also, there is a menu item named "Listings - Search" that you can also use.

 

Keep in mind that a proximity search (they are performed by Google) is based on a direct line search: the radius of a circle. Something that is closeby in a straight line may require a very roundabout way of getting there due to the method of transportation and intervening geography. Normally, each listing will have a map button you can click on to obtain driving directions and time or even walking information.

SUBMIT A NEW LISTING

 

To avoid duplicates, please check to see if we already have that place listed online by the methods mentioned above.

 

To submit a new listing, click on the "Listings - Submit" menu item and just fill in the blanks. Some data is marked as required (title, location) but other data is optional. You can also upload photos about that listing and at the same time submit a review, if you like.

 

We have over 60 different listing categories useful for travelers. When you make a submission, you will be asked to select the appropriate category from the following:

 

  • Accommodations
  • Cities, Towns, Villages
  • Colleges and Universities
  • Entertainment
  • Food & Drinks
  • Getting Around
  • Health (hospitals)
  • Outdoors
  • Shopping

 

Most of those categories have subcategories. For example, Food & Drinks is divided into 6 subcategories ranging from standard restaurants to wineries. Please note that "Shopping" isn't a catch-all term for stores. It means Shopping Centers.

 

All new listings go through a review process by moderators before appearing online. Once a listing is approved, you will be sent an automatic confirmation email with a link back to the listing so that you can easily check it out. You can also find it with the "My Listings" menu item.

 

CLAIM A LISTING

 

If you directly represent the place referred to in a particular listing and would like to update or add to a listing, there is a "Claim" button for each listing. You will need to prove your relationship with the listing. Generally, that means your registration email address must match the domain name of the listing's website. Otherwise, we will ask for another method of proof such as placing a temporary notation in the website's robots.txt file. Your webmaster can do that in a few seconds and it can likewise easily be removed later.

 

SUBMIT A NEW REVIEW

 

We encourage you to share your opinions with other people around the world by reviewing the various listings here. Whether it is just a fast food restaurant down the street or a small park that you might have visited in another country, your opinions, tips, and suggestions are useful to fellow travelers.

 

Please be sure that your review is mature and polite. Reviews that appear hateful (extremely negative), use inapproriate language, or appear intended to harm will not see the light of day and will be deleted by our moderators.

 

SUBMIT PHOTOS

 

You don't need to write a review in order to submit pictures related to a listing. You can upload 20 photos at time to virtually any listing. And pictures are worth a thousand words! If your phone maintains photos that you took even some time ago, you can still upload them to the appropriate listing. Those of us with the Android photo app may have years of photos on our phones that can be shared.

The entire community area of this website is totally independent of the reservations system used by TRAVEL.COM. They are two different entities. No one in the community area has access to reservations information or vice versa. In fact, the community area is staffed soley by volunteer moderators who love travel.
